It depends entirely on the extent of the outbreak — how far the rot has spread, how much timber needs replacing, and how easy the affected area is to access. That's exactly why we survey first and give you a clear written quotation before any work starts. The survey and quote are free and there's no obligation.
Both are caused by damp timber, but they behave differently. Dry rot spreads aggressively — even through masonry — and often shows deep cube-shaped cracking, a musty smell and cotton-wool-like growth. Wet rot stays confined to the wet timber itself, which becomes soft, dark and spongy. Getting it right matters, because dry rot needs more extensive treatment. Smaller damp or rot jobs can often be completed in a day or two. Larger outbreaks involving timber replacement, or full basement conversions, take longer. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your quote, and we work to keep disruption and mess to a minimum.
